I already left one entry here, but I wanted to share another story. As I read your messages about Roger, one thing comes up repeatedly: light -- "a bright light for me", "dear, precise, beautiful light", "the most beautiful lighting I'd ever seen", etc.
Well, last Wednesday, after our brief family-only remembrance time, we all went out for dinner. It started to rain, hard, and we all groaned. But when we left the restaurant, there in the sky was a beautiful rainbow! I like to think that my brother was using his "beautiful light" to wave good-bye. When you see a rainbow this summer, think of Roger! Janet

I didn't know Roger very well - he lit a show I did a few years ago and I know I thought it was the most beautiful lighting I'd ever seen. He was incredibly talented and a very kind man. He will be greatly missed by the theatre community of Charlottesville - for his friendships and his talent. A star has gone out.

Dear Prine Family,

I am devistated by our loss of Roger. I wish I could just tell you how much I loved him ...but I guess you'll have to wait for the play, book, or movie that I have to write about my friendship with Roger ... he will live on. How sorry I am for your loss, as his impact on my life was intense and we were friends only since 2003. As Roger always said "Take Care" he would want us to take care of ourselves, so please be kind to yourselves taking sick days or whatever you need to help heal...Love Leana

To the plays we worked on together, Roger brought warmth, heart, understanding, patience, encouragement, and of course light -- clear, precise, beautiful light. We were going to work together again this summer. I'll miss his creative presence.

I am stunned and saddened to hear of Roger's death. He was a bright, lovely man who easily lifted the spirits of bit players, stagehands, and those with starring roles.

I am deeply saddened as a wonderful soul has now departed this earth. I worked with Roger at Livearts and on different lighting jobs, and he was a friend whom I learned much from and highly respected. My condolences to his family - he is truly missed.

To all the Prine's, my deepest sympathy for your loss. I have few memories of Roger, but they are all happy moments. Love and hugs.

I've been doing theater with Roger for the past 10 years at Live Arts and Four County Players. I will miss so many things about him. Whenever I did a play out at Four County, he would always show up unexpectedly at one time or another and either jump right in to help out of just sit in the back row of the theater and quietly watch a rehearsal. I've never worked with anyone who worked so hard with so much passion on a play. When he directed Lightly Seasoned a few years ago, he also built the set, got the props, designed the lights and anything else that needed to be done. He had one of those recognizable laughs. You know the kind I mean. The kind that, when you heard it, you knew it was him and you were glad he was in the audience. He was a one of a kind. I wish he could have realized how many lives he touched and how much of an impact he had on them. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, his family, during this time of grief. He is gone much too soon.

i did not know roger but i knew him through allison and kelley's love and concern for him i am so sad that his talents and skills and personal strengths could not sustain him over time but he certainly tried. i hope his family who loved and tried to care for him can take some comfort that you all tried and tried and he knew that you did.

I had the privilege of learning from Mr. Prine both inside the classroom and out, at Madison County High School, and Four County Players. He was a delightful man, with a wealth of knowledge, and he shared that knowledge tirelessly and generously. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and wit.
