We express our heartfelt sorrow at the loss of Roger. To his family and friends who loved him, our prayers and thoughts are with you always.

I cannot begin to say how saddened I am at learning of Roger's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting him during his brief stint at Plow & Hearth. He was a great conversationalist, we had many, many talks. He was one of the few people I knew who was as opinionated as I. It got us into trouble sometimes but we always took the high road with each other. I last saw him when we went to an FCP event last year. We had the best time ever when we saw the Delany Sisters at Live Arts. He would always call me out of the blue with some great idea, article/book he had read or any politically charged subject he knew I'd keep him busy debating. He was one of a kind and I will miss him. His passing has made me realize how important it is to keep your friends close, not to let time, work, money etc keep you from touching base with the people you love, respect and admire. My heart goes out to the family, my sincerest condolences to you all.

Dear Prine Family,
My heart has been so heavy since the news of Roger's death. After Alison and I became childhood friends in Mt. Lebanon, I knew Roger from yearly Christmas celebrations at the Prines. I remember his big laughter, teasing older brother ways, vibrant personality, ability to relax to a book on a couch, skill with words, bright eyes, worker hands. He, like the other Prines, had strong opinions, intentions and actions about community, politics, art. He was the brother, the son, the friend. I'm aware of his and the family's intense efforts to embrace/sustain life and I am sad for everyone's loss.
I am thinking of each of you, sending love, light and comfort, hugs from afar.

To the Family of Roger Putnam Prine,
I too feel your lost and offer my prayers for Peace for the family and especially Roger.  I am a teacher and was a friend and co-worker of Roger's while he taught at Louisa County Middle School.  In 1995, he was my secret pal. As a gift, he gave me a book, titled,"I Dream A World, Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America" by Brian Lanker. The book will always be treasured for inside he wrote me a priceless, lasting message...."Avis, a teacher who has changed young Americans." After leaving Lousia, Roger called me and invited my family to some of his plays.  My husband and I were able to attend two different plays and I was very pleased with his accomplishments. I was excited to know that he still remembered me having left Louisa several years ago and that he was happy and enjoyed what he was doing. Yes,I am a witness that Roger made a positive impact on many lives.  When I heard the sad news, I ran and found his gift, opened it, and reread his message.  Roger, you too helped changed America.
Linda Prine note from an organ recipient May 11, 2008
I got a thank-you card today from one of the beneficiaries of Roger's donation of his body for organ donation (we were told that more than 100 people would be getting bits of Roger...) I wanted to share his message with everyone: Hello, Please accept my condolences on the death of your love one, and my gratitude for the donated cornea which enabled me to go from near blindness in one eye to beautiful sight. Thank-you, and God Bless. Joe

After much consideration it seems to be the consensus that we want to do something to honor Roger Prine's life and all the contributions he made to local theatre when he was well. We know that it was not his wish to have a service so we are going to look at it as a gathering or celebration in honor of him.

Four County Players will be hosting the event on June 8. 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Barboursville playhouse.  There will be a ceremony where people can tell stories and share memories followed by a pot luck lunch with the type of fellowship that Roger loved so much, food and conversation.

Autumn, This Web site is amazing and precious. Thank you so much for creating this beautiful "Memory Maker" of your wonderful Uncle Roger. I knew him as a social studies teacher in the Louisa County Middle School who had a vivacious personality, a love of humankind, and a wonderful gift of giving of his time and talents. How very sad that we have lost him, but the lives that he has touched will keep him in a special part of our hearts. We will look for the rainbows of life as he will be part of their beauty and lighting! Jeanne S. Chase, Charlottesville

I was fortunate to have known Roger since 2003 through Four County Players. Roger had the most wonderful light designs. He was a very kind and generous person, always willing to do a favor for a friend. His presence will be deeply felt throughout the theater community. One thing Roger did very well was lights, he was a bright shining light, shine on Roger!

Dear Prine Family:
I was deeply saddened to learn of Roger's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My fondest childhood memories are of spending summer vacations at Pearl Beach with Roger and his sisters. He was always a bright blur of blond hair, running from cottage to cottage. I will always remember him as this sunny, smiling eight year old, riding his bike in the Fourth of July parade. I hope that soon the sorrow will pass for all those who were touched by his life and the warm memories will remain.
